Effective December 28, 2022, Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. (V&K) will administer the city's building division on an interim basis until further notice . This includes building permits, plan review, inspections, and building code consultation services. Building Official Mike Flahive has accepted a new position and his last day with the city will be December 27.
V&K is an engineering and municipal services consulting firm in West Des Moines with several locations throughout Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri. V&K has certified code officials on staff and provides building permit and inspection services for dozens of communities around central and southern Iowa. Oskaloosa has held a contract with V&K for many years for back-up (as-needed) building review and inspection services. Qualified staff will continue to be available for scheduled on-site inspections, consultation, questions, and support as needed for all active and new construction projects within the city.
Oskaloosa's Development Services Department aims to provide quality, professional service and will work diligently to hire and situate a new building official in the first quarter of 2023.
