City Clerk

Responsibilities

Appointed by the City Council, the City Clerk attends all council meetings and is responsible for duties defined by the Code of Iowa and designated by the City Council. The staff from the City Clerk's Office is responsible for maintaining all public records, which consists of storage, retention and scanning of official records. In addition to records management the office performs the following duties:

  • Issues various municipal licenses and permits
  • Maintains the city municipal code
  • Manages insurance on all city-owned vehicles, property and equipment
  • Notary Services
  • Performs election duties as required by the Code of Iowa
  • Process requests for public records
  • Process risk management claims
  • Process tax abatement applications
  • Publishes public notices as required by law
  • Receives official bids of the city

The City Clerk's office also manages the Finance and Human Resource departments.
